Sultry pink and orange shades slashed across the Highland horizon as the sun sank below the surface. A gentle breeze tickled the air and gently lifted Amandaâs hair from her shoulders as she walked beside Camden. She watched as he gazed about the grounds. He murmured his amazement at how much, yet how little, had changed. They hadnât been able to find anything in the books that would help him to get back to his time, and the only thing they could come up with was roving the grounds and castle themselves to figure it out.
In just an hour or so, Trish and the dozen or so girls sheâd invited would return, and the bachelorette party would begin. Dunvegan was already coming to life. Twinkling lights dangled from the trees in the gardens, and candles within the castle sent glittering light into the courtyard. As she and Camden approached the imposing front doors, they swept open.
âMiss Bennett, Iâve been looking for ye,â Sophie, the party coordinator, said. She wouldnât be staying but had come highly recommended for being discreet and knowing just how to set the mood for private parties.
âIs everything all set up?â Amanda asked.
Sophieâs gaze roved hungrily over Camden, and Amanda couldnât help the stab of jealousy that wove its way around her belly.
âYes, it is. Come have a look.â She beckoned them inside. âSophie Leonard,â she said, holding out her hand to Camden.
He took it firmly in his and kissed her knuckles. Amanda suppressed the catlike growl that pushed up from her throat and instead glanced around the great hall. Sophie truly was a magician!
âOh, itâs fabulous.â Amanda twirled in a circle.
The woman had outdone herself. Glittering candles lined the windows. A table in the corner served as a bar and held every imaginable drink possible. The long trestle table was laden with delicious desserts, cheeses, breads, fruits, cold sandwiches and more. The center of the room was covered in a lush rug with dozens of soft, cushy pillows. Beside that, a few games were stacked. No doubt the naughty games Sophie had told her they should play.
A makeshift dance floor had been set out with a metal pole in the middle. Amanda walked up to it, held the cool metal in her hand and swung around. Tonight, there would be music blaring and lots of dancing going on. A sudden sadness gripped her. Would Camden want to join in?
âOver here is the music station.â Sophie walked over to a complicated system. She lifted up a compact disc and wiggled her brows. âIâve brought some music. Iâm sure the dancers will bring their own, but just in case, this is perfect.â
âThank you so much, Sophie.â
âDinna mention it. Thereâs more food in the kitchen for refills. Iâll be back in the morning to clean up.â With one last longing look at Camden, she let herself out.
Amanda turned to Camden. âDo you think youâll stay for the party?â
He lifted the corner of his lip in a smile. âAch, of course, I will, lass.
